The Bestiary

Here is a comprehensive list of Supernatural entities and creatures that are allowed and disallowed on Moonlit Shadows. If there is a Canon Teen Wolf Creature not listed on here and you wish to play it please contact a Staff member and find out if it is okay first before applying! But the rule of thumb is it might not likely be allowed for what ever reason that may be!

Banshee

”Did You Hear That?”

A Banshee, also known as The Wailing Women, is a type of creature that not much is known about. While many banshee’s live their lives as humans, there are very few that have their screams. It is unknown what makes the Banshee’s genes activate in women, but it’s known be genetic. Most often even other supernatural beings have no idea that a banshee could walk among them even with their super senses, and the only way of identifying a banshee from a human is by their piercing scream that alerts people around them; or not reacting to an alpha bite, kamina poison, or even mountain ash. While some people such as Lydia Martin had their powers activated by the supernatural, not all seem to undergo the same process.

Sadly for many Banshees their powers will often drive them to madness. Being the harbingers of death, they have gained a negative, but yet power rep among the supernatural community. Not completely supernatural, they however are connected to them on a completely different plain. This plain often causes them to hear things, see things, or even vivid dreams. Each leading to a murder or some kind of death closest to them. The scream many their exert is known to drown out all noise around them so they can hear these voices. To a new banshee these powers often will have them kill themselves if their weak willed or uneducated in their species.

Powers and Abilities

As displayed by Lydia Martin, Banshees are capable of many extraordinary feats. The most common of which is their scream. It is their defense and their mourning. It can be heard over large distances and even be high enough to shatter windows. For an experienced Banshee these screams can have a physical impact to augment their fighting capabilities to defend themselves. On the flip side it is said those who hear these screams are fated to die. At the same time this very connection draws all banshee’s to death scenes, either willing or unwilling.

A neat trait given to the Banshee is that they are connected to the spirits of the dead, as well as those of other plains. Most often they are heard as voices no one can hear, while other times it’s horrific visions or nightmares. Being skilled in communication a banshee may begin to sort out these voices to help the dead, or themselves in some way. Conversely because of this trait, as well as their drowning scream, they appear unaffected my weak illusions, most often able to break them quicker than others.

Weakness’

A Banshee is Mortal, meaning they can be killed just like any human. A banshee often falls victim to madness and loneliness due to the voices that never stop, and while it’s not guaranteed, many banshee’s are the last of their friends and family to die driving them to seclusion. At the same time their attraction to death draws hellhounds and beings of death or outworldly towards them. It is though that having a banshee in your town is a bad omen as they are a magnet to the supernatural due to screams drawing attention of the supernatural.

Druid

“If a druid went down the wrong path, the wise oak was sometimes said to have become a dark oak.”

Druids or as the word means in Gaelic “Wise Oak” are men and women who often server as advisors and Emissaries to werewolf packs. This often was seen as a way to keep the druids wolf counter parts grounded and connected to their humanities. However it is possible that their relationship with Wolves where not one sided and that the packs they served gave them shelter and protection to work the arts. It is said that the connection between Wolf Pack and Druid was first formed thousands of years ago back when King Lycaon and his sons were cursed with the wolven forms when they angered Zeus by serving human flesh to him at a banquet. It was the druids that brought them back to humanity and taught them to shift back and forth in the process.

However not all Druids are connected to a pack of wolves, some even in the ancient past where connected to kings of men. Acting as sorcerous advisors to guide them in ruling their charges. One such mythical figure was Merlin in the tale of King Arthur and his knights of the round table. Yet not all Druids are of the “Wise Oak”. Some go darker still and lose themselves in the shadows of the night. These men and women become Darach’s or “Dark Oak”. A good analogy of Druids and Darach’s would be the Jedi and the Sith as one seeks wisdom and balance. Whilst the other seeks power to achieve their goals.

Powers and Abilities

Druids for the most part don't have any supernatural gifts or abilities as they are fundamentally human. Any abilities they have harnessed are steeped in knowledge and wisdom through many long years of scholarly study. Through this it is said they could once wield mystical forces with the combination of herbalism to act as a backup. Since they are human, they are no stranger to being not as physically enhanced as their wolven charges. Thus they often pick up some form of Martial skill i practice of self defence. In ancient times it may have been a sword or a quarter staff disguised as a walking cane.

However their biggest weapon is their repertoire of rituals and ideology of belief which fuels their mystical arts. However in comparison to their ancient kinsmen the druids of today are far less mystical and more knowledge seekers and healers through modern means.

Weakness’

As druids are fundamentally human they lack any supernatural enhancements. This is their only downfall and true weakness as they have bodies that are less durable. They are thus more fragile to circumstances and disease.

Hellhound

”Spectral beasts whose eyes glowed with fire”

Hellhounds or the Black Dog or even the Bearer of Death as they are known are an immortal species that are known for possessing the bodies of the dead. Usually this means the dead soul is reborn alongside its canine counterpart. This form of rebirth is usually triggered by the need to complete some form of destiny that can’t be accomplished in their non corporeal state. Thus because of this they have become known to be guardians of the supernatural world. They are neither good nor evil and remain neutral in their quest to keep the supernatural world hidden, whilst seeking out their destined goals. This being said Hellhounds are exceedingly rare, with only two showing themselves with in the recent time period. Said Hounds being Cerberus and Halwyn.

According to myth and legend they are supposed to have ridden the wild storm alongside the Ghost Riders of the Wild Hunt. Yet why they do this and what role they play in the Hunt remains a mystery. Often the Host remains unaware of the form of possession that has occurred and in fact they often don’t recall they died. Perhaps this is because of the Hellhound blocking certain memories in attempt to keep itself hidden? When transformed the Hellhound resemble the werewolf somewhat, just a lot more fiery in appearance. Their eyes glow with a reddish orange glow like embers about to be stoked into an inferno. However if a Ghost Rider gains control of them, their eyes change to a blue-green flame colour.

Powers and Abilities

When the Hellhound transforms it is usually during nightfall. Which is when they take control of their hosts body to do their duty that night. They suppress the spirit of their host, so no knowledge is shared and it would become a blackout in the hosts memory. Sometimes the host can remember snippets of memories may leak through the Hellhounds block. Yet like the Werewolf and any other shifter they brandish fangs and claws whilst under a cloak of hellfire. As they are fire incarnate the posses the power to manifest fire and heat from their bodies. They can control theses as well, to burn or singe anything that bars their path.

In rare circumstances the Hellhound and merge with their host allowing a more equal relationship to occur between the two. This grants the host full conscious control of the powers granted by the hellhound. On top of all of this, they are immensely strong and immortal beings of death and destruction.

Weakness’

As the Hellhound is Immortal and invulnerable they have next to none weakness’. If one is lucky they might slow its movements with mountain ash, but this is not likely as they would likely burn their way through the barrier quickly and they only thing capable of stopping them is silver, usually in the form of a bullet to the brain. Yet even this is not that effective. Besides this they can be controlled by the Wild Hunt and the Ghost riders.

Hunter

To hunt them all.

Hunters are men and women dedicated to hunting the Supernatural that preys on humankind. Often they follow a code of honor that allows supernatural creatures who try to exist peacefully to go undisturbed. This code is "Nous chassons ceux qui nous chassent" or “We Hunt those who hunt us”. This code generally means that they only hunt Supernatural creatures who harm humans if there is “proof”, that they don’t harm supernatural children and above all they don’t harm humans whatsoever. Typically Hunters belong to a clan or family. Some of these date back hundreds of years, but it is clear that one of the oldest lines are the Argent Clan. Another such Clan is the Sterling Clan of Whitewood Falls and the Calaveras.

However not all Hunters follow this code, some kill supernatural creatures because it is their right to rid the world of “evil” when in fact they are committing an act of genocide. Such hunters are often outnumber those who follow the code. Some of them take their crusade so far that they trap packs regardless of them having children and humans in their midst and gun them down or burn them alive in their homes as they sleep. These such hunters usually are made up of elitist and those who have seen too much and become afraid of the night.

Powers and Abilities

Hunters don’t have any “Powers” so speak, but they make up with it with skill and finesse and sheer numbers. Some of these skills are gunslinging, gunsmithing, archery and general practice of martial weapons like knives and even the a hunter gadget that is a over powered stun baton. Besides their arsenal they have a bestiary which covers all knowledge on supernatural creatures they have encountered. Both good and bad ones. It often covers general information, powers, abilities and finally weakness’. This is often the greatest tool and weapon of a hunter clan and it is guarded religiously.

Weakness’

Since Hunters are fundamentally human they lack any supernatural enhancements. This is their only downfall and true weakness as they have bodies that are less durable. They are thus more fragile to circumstances and disease.

Kanima

”Like the wolf, the Kanima is a social creature but where the wolf seeks a pack the Kanima seeks a master.”

Known as a weapon of vengeance, they are governed by a bond made with a master seeking out justice for some injustice committed against them. The Kanima is a mutation of the werewolf gene due to a form of emotional trauma which is stemmed from a past event that caused traumatic issues in the Kanima. The Kanima can’t become a Werewolf until its past trauma that helped manifest it is resolved.

Regardless the Kanima takes the shape of a lizard, covered in dark green scales with reptilian eyes. The long curved claws that are adept at dealing vengeance, As well as a long prehensile tail. It is said that it has an enhanced stage, in which the kanima must first kill itself and wrap itself in a cocoon so it can evolve further. Upon emerging from the Cocoon it strikes an even more fearsome visage, as its form now has large wings and its tail has spikes, but it is rare that a Kanima reaches this stage as more than likely they resolve their issues and become Werewolves. A even rarer form of evolution of the Kanima is when it becomes a hybrid of the Kanima and the Werewolf. Such persons are able to both shift between both wolf and kanima forms with ease.

Note at this time all forms of Kanima are banned and only allowed for canons

Powers and Abilities

Like the Werewolf the Kanima has enhanced senses, strength, durability and healing. However what truly sets it apart is its long wicked claws.its claws secrete a paralytic venom which allows it to stop its victim from moving all together. They are also able to secrete this venom from the tip of their tail. Finally like some reptiles they are able to climb vertical surfaces with ease, like walls for example.

Weakness’

The Kanima like the Werewolf is stopped in its path by Mountain Ash, yet very little stops it in the wake of its vengeance seeking claws. Most forms of wolfsbane have a lessoned effect on the Kanima but yellow wolfsbane has a much easier time taking down the Kanima. Its deep connection to its master can also be considered a weakness as the fears of its master can cause the Kanima to stop in its tracks. Finally in their human forms they are susceptible to its own venom, tranquilizers and wolfsbane.

Kitsune

The young fox always knows the rules so she can break them.

Kitsune or fox spirits are common in Japanese folklore. They are also reference in other asian mythology such as Chinese or Korean. They are known as tricksters and have no real aversion to right or wrong. Yet there are many that are on the side of the light.

There are thirteen known subtypes of Kitsune and they are based on the Oriental elements. They are a bit different from most shapeshifters as they seem mostly human and have to unlock certain powers as they gain tails. Examples of such powers are gaining shifting powers like a werewolf to transform into a fox which takes many many years and about six tails. The are known to live much longer then humans and without the appearance of physical aging. They have an aura that display the visage of a fox around their human form. Which other shifters can see using their enhanced eyesight when shifted. Yet when a picture is taken by a camera the aura is captured within the photograph. Kitsune with two or more tails can conceal their auras to prevent them from being revealed.

When Kitsune are born they have no tails and are earned through some achievement or showing some skill or characteristic that deems them worthy of a new tail. They can create fox fire at will which becomes more deadly with age and takes on the element of the type the Kitsune is. Their tails are often awarded in the form of an object. Usually a knife, sword or anything small enough that can be hidden, they are usually made from obsidian. A Kitsune can break a tail to summon an Oni, a spirit warrior who will serve the Kistunes will and bidding. Yet Oni can change their allegiance if the tails are stolen and one broken to make a new Oni. With age the Kitsune can make stronger Oni. Yet this has a price, when all of a Kitsunes tails are used up they basically become human and will age normally. It is unknown if they can regain their tails and it is consider to think wisely before using a tail to summon an Oni.

As for kitsune elemental types they are as follows: Celestial, Wild, Ocean, Thunder and Nogitsune (Void). These are just the canon ones for the show, thus we are only allowing these ones at the present time except for Nogitsune.

Before making a Kitsune with anymore tails then one, please contact a member of the staff team. PM one of them and we will get back to you as soon as possible! The same can be said of making a Void or Nogitsune, as they are out right banned

Powers and Abilities

Kitsune are both unique and alike to the werecreature. Like other were creatures they have the stable of heightened senses. Yet their agility is heightened further beyond a wolf or any other werecreature, after all they have the grace of a fox. In some cases they have varying enhanced strength but this may vary based on elemental type. Their healing factor is also accelerated, but this needs to be triggered before it is gained.

Yet the Kitsune is a creature that separates itself from the norm. They are able to manipulate a form of energy that is called “Fox-Fire”. However despite its name it is not always firey in construct. The effect and appearance is based on the kitsunes elemental type, for example Kira was able to control, manipulate and absorb electricity whilst the Nogitsune was able to use its Fox-Fire in the form of flies to control the minds of people that ingested them by force. Finally Kitsunes live long lives and are almost immortal. Some are able to maintain their youth for long periods of time. Some in fact are immortal and can’t be killed like the Nogitsune.

Weakness’

Kitsune are more enigmatic in regards to other supernatural creatures as with age comes power. But this does not mean they are without their own weakness’. Mountain ash bars their path like any other supernatural creature. But unlike the werecreature they are not as durable despite their accelerated healing. They are more likely to succumb to physical wounds then a werecreature. Also they are affected by the weaponized canine distemper virus. But it affects them differently, by targeting the brain and blinding them before ending in death. This however can be cured. Finally if a kitsune should break all his or her tails they would be rendered near mortal until they regain a tail. The same could be said if they received the bite of an alpha, which would turn them into a Werewolf and not a hybrid thus they would lose all of their kitsune powers.

Werecreature

”Sometimes the shape you take reflects the person you are.”

Not all of those who are born or bitten take the shape of a wolf. Some such examples of these are the Werecoyote, Werejaguar and the Weredingo. Werecreatures in general often are very similar to the Werewolf, and they are governed by the light of the full moon and the need to have an anchor to ground themselves. However not all of them are in the need of pack dynamics. One such example is the Weredingo whom does not become an omega if they are not apart of a pack. Infact its quite often for a lone Weredingo to strike out on its own. Other interesting details is often they don’t follow the convention eyes of the wolf that Werewolves follow. As Werejaguar’s have neon green eyes that resemble cats eyes. However with Werecoyotes and Weredingo’s they follow the same rule of thumb as the Werewolf.

Powers and Abilities

All Werecreatures share the same traits and powers of the Werewolf. Thus they have enhanced physical prowess and enhanced senses that allow them to perform many feats. However sometimes these creatures have something that sets them apart from their wolven kin. With the Werecoyote they have heightened sense of smell beyond the Werewolf and it is easier for them to discern emotions and chemosignals based on this. With the Werejaguar they almost on par with the Kitsune in agility due to their felined grace. Finally with the Weredingo what separates them from the rest is the fact that they don’t become Omega’s when they leave their pack.

Weakness’

Werecreatures of any sorts share the same downfalls of the Werewolf. They have a near fatal reaction to Wolfsbane that will kill them if it is not cured. Mountain Ash bars them from crossing its threshold and they are governed by their instincts and the full moon.

Werewolf

”The bite is a gift”

Werewolves are a form of Shapeshifter that take on features of a wolf. For the most part they appear like everyday humans however they have the ability to shift into a wolf like form that is bipedal. Other features included are increased body hair, fangs, claws and glowing eyes. Most Werewolves however never break past this partial shift or half shift form. Yet it has been documented that in rare cases that one may take on a monstrous form that resembles the more stereotypical Werewolf as it is displayed in pop culture. Finally the other rarity is a form of evolution that is usually seen in Werewolves of birth, and usually those with a closer tie to an old bloodline for example the Hale bloodline. This is the primal form of fully shifting into an actual wolf, those who have achieved this transformation are usually revered in some way out of respect.

Another important fact about Werewolves is pack dynamics. There is three pack ranks; Omega, Beta and Alpha. Omega’s are packless Werewolves, Betas the majority members of a pack and Alphas are the pack. Omegas are the weakest as they have no pack to draw strength from, Betas are stronger than Omegas as they have a pack to draw strength from and finally Alphas are the strongest. In one lifetime a Werewolf can rise and fall from one pack rank to another. There is a few ways to become an Alpha. One is to kill another Alpha thus stealing the power, another is for a beta to inherit it when the Alpha dies and finally they can become a True Alpha through strength of character or force of will.

Amongst Werewolves there are three known colours that shine when a Werewolf shows the glow of its Werewolf Eyes. Two of these are seen on Omegas and Betas. These are the Brilliant Gold and the Cold Steel Blue. The only difference between these two colours is having the Cold Steel Blue Eyes symbolizes the fact that the Werewolf has taken an innocent life, whilst Brilliant Gold is just the standard color for Werewolves. However Alpha Werewolves eyes glow a Crimson Red, symbolizing their power, and leadership.

Powers and Abilities

Werewolves as they are more than just human have abilities and powers that separate them from the norm. They are able to smell far better than humans, and in fact more experienced werewolves are able to scent emotions from chemosignals. Their eyesight is superior allowing them to see better and even allows them to perceive objects or living beings better in the dark or even in low light vision. Unlike humans werewolves have the ability to heal rapidly from most injuries. They also have enhanced physical prowess allowing them to jump, run, climb and react much faster or quicker even then humans. Not to mention this also affects their strength and constitution. They hit harder than a normal human and often are more durable in the long run. As they are a pack creature they have a surprising ability that perhaps is symbolic of how Wolves in the wild will often care for an injured pack member. The above abilities are common to all werewolves.

A werewolf is able to drain the pain of another creature, person and or animal and absorb it into their own body. This in some rare circumstances can help the healing process of some injuries or illness’. Another ability all werewolves can do is the ability to view, steal or even implant memories by embedding their own claws in another person's neck. This establishes a form of mind to mind communication, it is risky as if the werewolf performing this is not precise enough they may just cut through the spinal cord. Yet with practice the werewolf using this will be able to even manipulate or erase memories with ease. Some werewolves are able to use their enhanced senses to sense out illness’ or even some cases allow them to predict and act in the events of attacks. Such as Asthma or even epilepsy. This is often their enhanced senses working in concert on a subconscious level.

Weakness’

Werewolves are not invulnerable nor are they invincible. Just like humans there are weakness that are often the bane of their existences. Some of these are more severe than others. For example there is a plant referred to as Aconite also known as Wolfsbane and Monkshood. It normally is poisonous to living things, but its deadly to Werewolves. They come in different varieties that have different effects and uses. Often the effects can be reversed by using the plant to make a cure out of it by burning it and rubbing the ash into the wound. Mistletoe is another poison that is poisonous to werewolves, but unlike with humans it can lead to death if untreated. Another plant based item that is a form of weakness is the ash of the Rowan tree or mountain ash. This is used often to create barriers that most supernatural creatures can’t cross this includes Werewolves. According to some druids it can be used to modify bad behaviour in Werewolves. Most likely by keeping them from causing “trouble”. The effects of a lunar eclipse is another weakness. It will strip a Werewolf of all of its powers and abilities. Effectively rendering them as if they were still or born human. The above a considered major weakness’.

Yet where there is major there is minor. One such minor “weakness” is the pull and call of the full moon. Inexperienced Werewolves are at its mercy. Under the sway of the moon's pull they lose control and their blood lust rises. Control can be taught and learnt, but bitten werewolves often have a harder time with control. The mineral or stone Hecatolite can block the effects of the moon which will disrupt the natural cycle of transformation. If a werewolf is denied the ability to shift in this way for too long they will go berserk with blood lust. Wounds inflicted by the claws or fangs of an Alpha Werewolf heal much slower the normal, then any other injury. Regardless Werewolves can still be killed in some methods just like humans can. They can’t heal from having their skull crushed, or a bullet to the brain and even being cut in half. Finally intense pain and steady application of low level electricity can keep werewolves weak and in human form.

Warlocks & Witches

“Hear now the words of the witches, the secrets we hid in the night"

Witches or Warlocks are humans who practice magic that is drawn from a different source that druids use. They were once druids once upon a time, back when Druids gathered in groups to perform their rituals. From continuous rituals a mutation was born. This mutation gave a select few access to true magic. Now unlike Druids or Darach’s this new born sect amongst druids could use magic at whim. They could snap their fingers and mutter an incantation and fire would sprout and burn. Initially It was good aligned druids that formed from this mutation. However there where those who were Darachs who sort to abuse this, new found power. Thus, a divide occurred, altering the ranks forever.

The Druids with innate magic now, formed their own group and formed families in which to start building their knowledge. However, unlike Druids they are not set in stone to being neutral in morality. They can be good or evil; but when they go bad it's often in a burst of brimstone and hellfire. Typically, Witches and Warlocks are born the way they are, typically from a “pure” bloodline. However, rarely sometimes a seemingly normal human is found to have the spark of power manifest with in them. Usually because they are from some form of forgotten line, lost to time. However, often those that were born the way they are belong to prestigious families of old blood that can be traced back centuries of magic in the blood. Often, they have grimores which are used to pass down knowledge and history from father to son or from mother to daughter.

Powers and Abilities

Warlocks & Witches tap into innate magic that has been passed down from father to son, from mother to daughter over generations. Any magical knowledge and aptitude are usually taught by a family member from the personal grimore. Yet even with their ability to wield mystical forces, they temper it with herbalism and alchemy to bolster their abilities and weakness’. Like Druids they still have the same knowledge of the druids and are able to perform rituals. But this may be tempered and changed to act differently as they function differently to Druids who they once descent from.

Weakness’

As Warlocks and Witches are fundamentally human they lack any supernatural enhancements (unless they enhance it with their magic that is) that other creatures have. This is their only downfall and true weakness as they have bodies that are less durable. They are thus more fragile to circumstances and disease. Yet they do have a few unique weaknesses to make note of. One the power is a double-edged sword. Using magic is draining on one’s stamina and mental resolve. If persistent use occurs the caster may become weak, and thus vulnerable. In some cases, this may even lead to death. Another weakness to make note of is that being stabbed by an athame can will weaken their gift of magic for a period of time. Final the flower, poppy has a similar effect that wolfsbane has on werewolves and the bite of an alpha also makes them fall ill, with them developing a high fever, but it does not turn them nor kill them.
